name: Jazmyne Wade
occupation: 5th & 6th grade Tutor & Full-time fashionista

describe your style.
My style is ever-changing and evolving. I have a very un-defined style. I pull off different looks and like to play with combining different things, vintage finds, designer labels and even revamped thrift store pieces. My style, in one word, can be described as eclectic.
how do you stay current - do you pay attention to trends?
I stay current by reading fashion magazines, paying attention to celebrities’ style, surfing style blogs, and just observing what I see people wearing and talking about. I actually pay a lot of attention to trends, but I am definitely not a "trendy" person or a "trend follower." Trends help me to determine how I can tweak certain aspects of an outfit, but they don’t control what I wear.
what are your wardrobe staples?
My wardrobe staples are cigarette jeans (preferably Miss 60), chunky platform pumps, American Apparel basics, baby doll dresses, 80s inspired jewelry, vintage MCM bags, large cocktail rings, and my vintage 80s Moschino printed high-waist skinny pants.
is your closet organized at all?
My closet is VERY organized. I take pride in my clothes; they are my biggest investment. My pumps are front and center, shoe boxes stacked to the left and right, dresses and jackets on the top pole, skirts, tops, etc., on the bottom, and I have belts, tights, hats, bags in the closet drawers.
where do you like to shop? any frequent eBay searches?
I like to shop in Georgetown, mostly at Miss 60, Betsey Johnson, Cusp, Barney’s Co-op, and Annie Creamcheese. I also find a lot of pieces at different vintage and consignment shops like Junction, Meeps, Mustard Seed, and Secondi. I also like to splurge at Saks, Neimans, and Barneys. I have expensive taste, but I LOVE thrift stores. I even find labels there!!!
eBay is AMAZING!!! A lot of my favorite vintage pieces have come from eBay. Right now I’m bidding on an AMAZING pair of Betsey Johnson platforms.
who or what inspires you, fashion-wise?
Designers' in-season looks inspire a lot of what I wear. I am also inspired by what my friends wear and things my mother wore in the 80s, seriously!!! Fashion-conscious people on the street also inspire me. Past trends and celebrity looks from Grace Jones, Amy Winehouse, Rihanna, Lily Allen, and Kelis inspire me the most. Oh, and Eve is fierce right now too!
do you have any favorite designers?
My top five designers in order are Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino, Phillip Lim, and Yves Saint Laurent. I love Christian Louboutin, Miu Miu, and Chloe pumps. I also like pieces from Alexander McQueen, Versace, Diane Von Furstenburg, and I go crazy for Jeremy Scott and Tsubi!
what's your current favorite item of clothing?
My favorite item of clothing right now is my gold "casino" baby doll dress from local designer Muss. ;) I plan to wear it with either my gold Steve Madden pumps, or my black platform YSL pumps. It can even be pulled off with a pair of boots or sneakers, for an un-predictable look.
how would you define 'stylish?'
I would define "stylish", number one, as confidence. In order to be "stylish" I think you must be 100% comfortable in what you wear, and love it no matter what. A significant part of being "stylish" is standing out. Anyone "can dress," but a "stylish" person can dress well and get the attention of others.
what's your take on DC fashion, in general?
I think DC fashion is evolving. Since DC is so diverse, different cultures and styles are represented. I think DC, in general, is not very fashionable. There are the fashion-conscious and the "others." I see some growth, style-wise, but DC still has a long way to go. Everyone wants to be trendy and "in." Not good.
