beauty and the east.

all photos Ben Droz for the TM.
Thursday evening's Beauty and the East party at the Textile Museum was magical, to say the least, and I'm unbelievably thrilled and honored to have been part of it. While it's true that ANYTHING placed in the garden of that gorgeous place probably would have looked like a brilliant, shining diamond, I was beyond proud at how beautifully the tent came together.
Consisting of about 80 lbs of vintage velvets/silks/upholstery fabrics (and draped in 300+ handmade tassels), this project (nicknamed THE BOHEMIAN BEHEMOTH) was challenging and gratifying and absolutely would NOT have been any sort of success without a crack support team. Infinite thank yous to Nilay Lawson, Cortney Peguese, Rob Hungerford, Mitchell West, and Chelsea Iorlano; their contributions were immense (and APPRECIATED).
Thanks also to Katy Clune and Clare Blaustein at the Textile Museum for the project (and for a near-frightening level of creative freedom!), to Philippa Hughes for passing me along to the aforementioned ladies, to Culturadar for their sponsorship of the event, and to Refinery29, BYT, and DCist for repping the event at their respective sites.
Be sure to get to the Museum to check out the (really and truly beautiful) "Sultan's Garden" exhibition that inspired the tent, and for more pics (if you're so inclined!) my instagram feed is chock-full, right this way.
